Halitosis Treatment

Bad breath happens to everyone. However, when you start to experience bad breath even after regular brushing and flossing, you may have developed halitosis. Halitosis is often an early sign of a more complex dental issue. It is important to have your teeth and gums examined to check for evidence of gum disease or other dental problems.

If you are experiencing halitosis, family dentists Dr. John T. Gotwalt and Dr. Sara J. Gotwalt offer comprehensive dental care in their Lititz dental office. Dr. John or Dr. Sara can perform a comprehensive exam to determine the cause of your halitosis and provide the appropriate treatment to improve your smile. Dr. John and Dr. Sara are highly trained dentists who work closely with their patients to give them the dental treatment they need. At our Lititz dental office, we work diligently to help patients achieve a healthier, brighter smile.

Halitosis

There can be a number of factors that may be contributing to your halitosis. During your visit, Dr. John or Dr. Sara will take the time to address your dental concerns and examine your teeth to develop the right treatment for you.

  • Gum Disease: Gum disease affects more than just your gums. The bacteria caused by gum disease can begin to irritate your gums and teeth. Over time, the gums recede, which form deep pockets that can become infected. The bacteria in the pockets can cause halitosis if your gum disease is not properly treated.  Our Lititz dental office does provide a detailed periodontal examination to each of our patients. We also provide comprehensive, complete solutions to patients with gum disease.
  • Dry Mouth: Dry mouth occurs when the normal amount of saliva is not properly circulating in the mouth. If dry mouth is not treated, it can lead to tooth decay and halitosis.  Dry mouth can be caused by dehydration, medication, or tobacco use. It is important to stay hydrated and check the side effects of any medication you may be using.
  • Tooth Decay/ Cavities: Untreated tooth decay can cause a foul odor in the mouth. If you notice a persistent odor coming from the mouth, it is important to visit our Lititz dental office. Dr. John and Dr. Sara provide a full range of dental services to each patient in need of care.
