![]() Meet Dr. John Gotwalt, D.D.S.![]() Dr. John T. Gotwalt was born in 1951 to Marion and Dr. Spurgeon Gotwalt. John grew up in Akron Pennsylvania with his two siblings, Ellen and Tom. His father practiced dentistry in Akron and his mother was a home economics teacher at Ephrata High School. After attending Akron Elementary School and Ephrata High School he then attended Gettysburg College and received his B.S. in Biological Sciences. In 1977 John received his Doctor of Dental Science degree from Temple University. After completing dental school, Dr. John T. Gotwalt opened his dental practice in Akron Pennsylvania. In 1996, the practice moved to the current location in the Rothsville Medical Center. Here, each treatment room has a beautiful view of Northern Lancaster County. Dr. John T. Gotwalt resides in Schaefferstown with his wife Rebecca. They are the parents of two daughters, Sara and Amy. Sara graduated from the University of Pittsburgh Dental School in 2008. Amy is the mother of two children and is a graduate of Penn State, now working on her masters in education from Temple University. Being one of the school dentists for Ephrata Area School District, Dr. John Gotwalt loves to provide children with a fun dental experience. A member of Dental Network for Ephrata Kids, he participates in treating children from the Ephrata School District who have emergency dental needs. He enjoys cooking, gardening, golfing, reading and attending continuing education classes. | Value on Continuing EducationDr. Gotwalt places great value on continuing education. It is his firm belief that continuing his education allows him to be a better communicator, operator, and general dentist. By experiencing new educational opportunities each and every year, he is able to provide his services to the best of his abilities. The Academy of General Dentistry provides the format for assessment of his dedication to advanced studies. Dr. Gotwalt received his fellowship award in 1996 and will qualify for his masters in the near future. This milestone requires another 1000 hours of lecture and participation workshops. Dr. Gotwalt made the choice many years ago to study and complete the L.D. Pankey continuums and the Peter Dawson programs as well. Both are world renowned and second to none in their approach to quality and thorough dentistry. Their programs helped to mentor Dr. Gotwalt and his turn away from mass production dentistry and goal oriented business models where more is better. Dr. Gotwalt also is a long time member of the PEAK study club which meets bi-annually for four days of education with other dentists. Various topics are lectured and one day is devoted to presentations on clinical applications. Recently Dr.Gotwalt founded a new chapter of the R.V. Tucker Study Club. This club was originally founded for the pursuit of the best restoration ever made, gold castings. Intensive training in a very small group of like minded dentists is what attracted Dr.Gotwalt to this club. The First Pennsylvania Casting Club is the only one in Pennsylvania and one of 54 worldwide. The five dentists in the club are from Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Lancaster County. Dr. Gotwalt believes in individual care, time to get to know each patient, and in providing appointments that are scheduled just for you, allowing you to keep your schedule. In short, education and the pursuit of higher knowledge will make our journey together the best it can be. It provides us with joy and success at a master´s level as well.
